MARUTI SUZUKI 1.2L K12N DUALJET PETROL ENGINE EXPLAINED

Powerful performance, refinement and great fuel-efficiency have always been the forte of Maruti Suzuki’s K-Series petrol engines. The 1.2L K12N Dualjet petrol engine takes it forward.

BS6 compliant, this engine is available in the Baleno with Smart Hybrid technology and in the Dzire with Idle Stop Start. The 1.2L K12N Dualjet petrol engine has superior thermal efficiency that helps it deliver enhanced performance and higher fuel-efficiency.

The Pursuit of Higher Thermal Efficiency

Higher thermal efficiency is what makes the 1.2L K12N Dualjet petrol engine tick. It makes a peak power of 66kW @ 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 113 Nm @ 4000 rpm. These performance figures are achieved thanks to better thermal efficiency at the time of combustion.

Understanding how it works

Usually, during combustion, factors like unburned fuel and energy losses due to pumping, cooling, exhaust losses and mechanical resistance. However, the 1.2 L Dualjet engine can extract higher motive energy (to drive the car) from the fuel energy. In other words, the fuel energy is more efficiently utilized.

Performance and Fuel Efficiency Levelled Up

With an optimal compression ratio of 12.0:1 for better power and torque, and better cooling management technologies to keep abnormal combustion in control and the engine temperature low, the 1.2L K12N engine delivers better performance and higher fuel efficiency. What’s more, this Dualjet engine has improved engine stiffness that results in better NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) levels.
