The Smart Hybrid technology was first introduced in the Ciaz, after which it was integrated into the Ertiga. Today, you can get S-CNG Technology in Alto, Celerio, Ertiga, Eeco, Wagon R and S-PRESSO.

Components of the Smart Hybrid Technology

What makes the Smart Hybrid technology one of the most innovative introductions in the automobile sector are its Integrated Starter Generator and advanced dual battery setup:

Integrated Starter Generator (ISG)

The ISG has replaced the conventional alternator and performs multiple roles, including switching the engine on/off automatically, assisting acceleration, and recharging the dual battery setup. It converts the kinetic energy that is generated while braking/deceleration and stores it in the dual battery setup and uses the stored power to assist the engine when you accelerate.

Advanced Dual Battery Setup

Maruti Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid technology comes with an advanced dual battery setup that includes a high-capacity lead acid and lithium-ion battery which stores the energy that the car creates at the time of braking/deceleration and provides it to the ISG when needed. This combination results in a powerful performance and high fuel efficiency.

Functions Offered by the Smart Hybrid technology

The latest Smart Hybrid cars in India under the Maruti Suzuki banner have a lot to offer in terms of efficiency and sustainability. It’s main functions include:

Idle Start/Stop

This function helps lower emissions and fuel consumption as it turns off the engine automatically when your car is idle. When the clutch is pressed, the belt-driven ISG quickly and silently restarts the engine. For this, it uses the energy that is stored in the advanced dual battery setup.

Brake Energy Regeneration

Whenever the car decelerates or brakes, the ISG converts the kinetic energy produced into electrical energy and stores it in the dual battery system to facilitate Idle Start/Stop and Torque Assist functions.

Torque Assist

When it comes to Smart Hybrid technology, you have the Torque Assist function wherein the ISG uses the stored energy to supplement engine power during acceleration. This reduces fuel consumption when the car is picking up speed and enhances the overall drivability as well.
