Various Automatic Transmissions of MSIL:

Auto Gear Shift (AGS): Maruti Suzuki pioneered the revolutionary AMT technology with the launch of AGS in Celerio in 2014. AGS is equipped with the Intelligent Shift Control Actuator, an electric-hydraulic actuator that automatically performs clutch and shift operations enabling the user to experience the futuristic two-pedal technology.

Auto Gear Shift combines the actuator and controller and directly mounts them in the transmission in order to unify the working components. This permits synchronized control over the clutch, shifting and engine for smoother gear changes. This collates the advantages of both manual and automatic transmissions shortening the shifting time, compared to conventional automatic transmissions.

AGS is currently available in Celerio, Alto, WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Ignis and Brezza. By reducing the stress and effort of driving in heavy city traffic AGS enables comfortable drive.

AGS additionally performs the following functions:

1. Creep function: In Drive/Reverse (D/R) mode, no-requirement of pressing accelerator pedal after releasing the brake pedal to move the vehicle at low speeds.

2. Kick-down function: Automatically lowers gear to give better acceleration, based on driver request for sudden acceleration.

Automatic Transmission (AT): It is a completely automated gearbox that can self-change gear ratios as the vehicle moves, freeing the driver from having to shift gears manually. An automatic gearbox uses three main components:

1. Fluid/Hydraulic Coupling

2. Planetary Gears Train

3. Hydraulic Controls

The gear selection is done through a torque converter unit controlled by the car’s ECU, where it makes gear selection based on vehicle speed and load. Currently available in Ertiga, XL6 and Ciaz, it has the advantage of comfortable driving with good performance.

continuously variable transmission (CVT): CVT or Continuously Variable Transmission gives infinite gear ratios. The new generation CVT system with auxiliary gearbox provides seamless performance without shift and shock, when accelerating and decelerating. Thus, provide better drivability and excellent fuel economy.
