The next time you visit the Maruti Suzuki’s Rohtak facility, don’t forget to notice the extra greenery around!

Over 33,000 thousand trees in the Rohtak facility have been benefitting with a simple and small innovation. The innovation of recycling bio degradable waste and putting it to better use!

The 100 kgs of waste food generated by the Rohtak canteen, which caters to over 600 colleagues every day was a thought provoking matter for the EMU-PP and Environment Team. Not just disposing it off properly, the teams also wanted to utilize this waste in-house for something more purposeful.

Several options came up including vermi-culture. With brainstorming on the matter for several months, the teams decided to propose a composter machine to be installed next to the canteen. With the guidance from senior team members and colleagues at Rohtak Plant, the EMU-PP and Environment team together undertook a dipstick survey and visited other companies to understand what other companies are doing and which will be the best suitable product. The ‘Smart Xpress 100’ composting machine by Smart Enviro Systems was finalized as the best suitable product. The canteen raw and wastage food is manually fed into the machine and is kept in the auto mode 24 hours. After one day the machine is put in unloading mode and compost is collected.

Drip Irrigation in Rohtak: Saving gazillions of water!

Recently an environment friendly drip irrigation method was introduced at our Rohtak campus. With drip irrigation system approximately 60% of water is saved as compared to conventional/flood irrigation system. One can also calculate and apply the exact required water amount for the plants as per site condition, climatic condition, plant’s age and variety. One can apply fertilizers by drip system to the root zone of plants and hence avoiding any wastage of fertilizers. Fertilizers can be applied accurately as per requirement of plants. In conventional system we cannot apply fertilizers accurately and it may be applied more than required. Up to 50% of fertilizers is saved with the use of drip system. Less manpower and energy consumption are its other benefits. Our teams have calculated and found that it saves over 1.5 lakh rupees per month with its benefits.
