|After hosting some of world's toughest motorsport rallies in the North and West, India's car market leader, Maruti Suzuki flagged off its maiden adventure sport rally in South India, Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare here today.
The South-bound rally, aptly called Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare, is an attempt of Maruti Suzuki to reach out to the customers and motorsport enthusiasts in the South India.
The Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare is set to test the nerve and grit of participants and prove to be an exciting event spread over 4 days and 4 legs, based on the "Time-Speed-Distance" format. After the vehicle scrutiny today, the first competition leg of the rally will be flagged off by Mr. Manohar Bhat, Commercial Business Head (South), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, tomorrow from Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru.
On the occasion, Mr. Manohar Bhat said, "Maruti Suzuki has been organizing professional rallies such as Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya and Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm for several years. The Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare will bring the motorsport experience for people in Southern parts, close to their homes, in their own territory".
The Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare will have only an Adventure Trial category. After starting from Bengaluru for the first competition leg, the rally will traverse through the hilly terrain across Hasan, Coorg, Kalpetta, Sultan, Bathery, Ooty, Karamadai, Satyamangalam, Kallatti Ghat, Bandipur, Kanakapura to finally culminate at Bengaluru on December 5, covering a total of 1,400 kms, across 3 states - Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu in 4 days. Though the entire rally has been designed to be action packed, the Western Ghats will especially prove to be daunting as the rallyists battle the curving, narrow roads; the landscape splashed with lush green vegetation interspersed with giant boulders making a pretty picture.
The rally will cover an average of 350 kms per day. In the first leg, participants will cover a distance of 550 kms. The second leg will be 333 kms long while in the third leg, the distance to be covered will be 150 kms. In the final leg, the participants will drive for 350 kms and return to Bengaluru. The winners of the rally will be felicitated on December 5 in a prize distribution ceremony at Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru.
Those participating in the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare include top rallyists Sanjay Agarwal, Girija Shanker Joshy and current I600cc category National Champion, Sujay and two all women teams from Bengaluru. Besides teams from Bengaluru, the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare will see participation from Kerala, Coimbatore, Goa and Hyderabad.
