New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Limited (“Maruti Suzuki”) has opened admissions for the first batch at its newly commissioned JIM at Master Atul Govt. ITI in Sonipat, Haryana. The first batch at JIM Sonipat can accommodate over 100 students across four trades: namely Mechanic Motor Vehicle (MMV), Machinist, Welder, and Fitter. The session will begin in September 2025. Maruti Suzuki has allocated an amount of ₹10 crore for setting up JIM Sonipat.
Affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and accredited by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan, JIM Sonipat will follow a dual system of training that combines theoretical learning with practical on-the-job training. The program will follow NCVT curriculum. Additionally, it will include essential training in safety, quality, discipline, kaizen, and other acclaimed Japanese manufacturing practices relevant to the automobile manufacturing industry.
Applauding the Company’s Skill Development initiatives, Shri Gaurav Gautam, Minister of State - Youth Empowerment & Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), Sports, (Independent Charge) and Law & Legislative said, “Maruti Suzuki's commitment to skill development in Haryana through its state-of-the-art JIMs at Uncha Majra and now at Sonipat is truly commendable. By training youth and equipping them with industry-relevant skills, the Company is paving the way for their brighter future and contributing to Haryana's development and economic growth. This is in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ‘Skill India Mission’ and I applaud Maruti Suzuki’s efforts in this space.”
Elaborating on the initiative, Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki said, “We are committed to supporting the Government of India’s ‘Skill India Mission’ by training youth and making them industry ready. After setting up our first JIM in Haryana at Uncha Majra, we are thankful to the Government of Haryana for providing us the opportunity to set up the second JIM in the state. We are confident that both JIMs will prepare the students for opportunities across the automobile ecosystem and contribute to progress of Haryana.”
Mr. Bharti added, “By incorporating principles of safety, quality, and the acclaimed Japanese practices of discipline and continuous improvement, JIM Sonipat will not only enhance employability but also inculcate progressive work ethic among the students.”
As part of the Memorandum of Agreement to set up JIM Sonipat, the Government of Haryana has provided the land and building, while Maruti Suzuki has upgraded civil infrastructure, provided equipment, set up an assembly line for real-life simulation, designed training modules, and will manage the overall operations.
About Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM)
Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) was born out of a collaboration between the Governments of Japan and India to create a pool of skilled workforce for manufacturing in India.
It follows a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed in 2016 between the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Government of Japan and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship,
Government of India (MSDE), for a ‘Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme’ to train 30,000 youth in India over 10 years.
Over 2,100 students have been trained across the three JIMs since its inception1.
About Maruti Suzuki’s skill development initiatives
Maruti Suzuki has a two-pronged approach to its skill development programme.
Through the first approach, it has established JIMs.
The second approach focuses on upgradation of existing government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the country by setting up skill labs and providing specialized training to ITI students and trainers.
The Company supports 23 ITIs. In addition, High Voltage (hybrids & EV) training equipment was set up in 130 ITIs.
Maruti Suzuki has also established Automobile Skill Enhancement Centres (ASECs) in 31 ITIs pan India,
which provide specialised training in automotive servicing, maintenance, and vehicle repair.
The Company also invests in apprenticeship program for ITI graduates to prepare them as skilled shop-floor professionals.
Total CSR spent by Maruti Suzuki on skill development stands at over ₹450 crore till FY 2024-25.
