New Delhi: Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) sold a total of 62,996 factory-fitted CNG vehicles in FY 2014-15, a growth of 23% over previous year. The contribution of CNG vehicles to total sales increased to 5.4%, from 4.9 % in FY 2013-14. Maruti Suzuki, the first Company to introduce factory-fitted CNG cars in India in 2010, offers six dual fuel (CNG+Petrol) models namely Alto, Alto K-10, Celerio, Wagon R, Eeco and Ertiga. The CNG variants of Alto K-10 and Celerio were launched in 2014-15. CNG is a cleaner fuel and emits a negligible amount of PM10 and PM2.5. In cities like Delhi and Mumbai where distribution infrastructure is in place and CNG for automobiles is available almost 50% sales of Wagon R, Eeco and Ertiga are accounted for by the CNG variants. i-GPI Technology Powered by the acclaimed Intelligent Gas Port Injection (i-GPi) technology, MSIL’s CNG vehicles deliver the advantage of best in class fuel efficiency, besides safety, reliability and performance The i-GPI works on Dual-ECU (Engine Control Unit) technology. This highly reliable system delivers accurate amount of gas to the engine thus ensuring improved and consistent performance under various driving conditions. The i-GPI technology uses separate injectors for each cylinder. Based on inputs from the ECU, optimum CNG quantity is injected to the engine through gas ports. The quantity of CNG required for different driving conditions is controlled by the dedicated ECU, leading to more efficient fuel usage. |
