Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) today launched its Community Safe Drinking Water project under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. Smt. Bimla Choudhary MLA, Pataudi and Mr. R S Kalsi, ED (Marketing & Sales) Maruti Suzuki India today inaugurated first such facility in Kasan village, Manesar. The dignitaries gave away fresh water cans to villagers, to launch the project.
Maruti Suzuki has invested around Rs. 20 lakh in setting up this facility.
The Kasan Water ATM has a capacity of generating 1000 litres of purified water per hour and will benefit over 10,000 residents in the village.

Mr R S Kalsi, ED, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India said, “Maruti Suzuki’s CSR projects are designed to address community needs. The initiative to set up Water ATM in Kasan village was based on the need of the villagers for potable drinking water and to reduce water borne diseases. This advanced water ATM plant uses state-of- the- art 10 stage water filtration process that results in safe and clean drinking water meeting World Health Organization standards and Indian Standard IS10500 with minimal water rejection.”
Supported by Maruti Suzuki and set up by Waterlife India, the Water ATM facility is built on self- sustaining model. Maruti Suzuki has borne the initial cost of the project. The Kasan village panchayat is the project owner and has provided the land.The panchayat will be providing the water and electricity to run the Water ATM.

Waterlife India will undertake operations and maintenance of the plant for a period of ten years, and will sell water at a nominal rate of 35 paisa per litre. As a unique feature of the advanced water filtration process, the waste water generated from this plant is around one-fourth of the other conventional water purification plants.
Maruti Suzuki has taken up various community development initiatives to improve the water and sanitation in the villages of Manesar. The Company has taken up comprehensive sanitation program which includes construction of Individual Household Toilets and laying of sewer lines along with solid and liquid waste management. The Company is also constructing water tanks, toilets and bore wells in government schools of Haryana. Apart from this the Company is working on building overall awareness on sanitation among community members.
