India is making impressive strides in building and modernizing road infrastructure. A combination of bold policy reforms and execution is transforming the landscape.

The Golden Quadrilateral highway, a vision of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India, lies at the core of this transformation. The modern, multilane and world quality highway has had a significant positive impact on economic growth, efficiency and investment. By facilitating faster transport of goods, raw materials, people and products, the Golden Quadrilateral has touched the economic, social and cultural life of India. The highway network also resulted in direct and indirect job creation.

On the occasion, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki, said, “Availability of a good road infrastructure is essential for sustained growth of a country. Just like the veins in one’s body, roads are critical for every country. Roads connect lives, accelerate industrial development, and generate direct and indirect employment. They expand the reach of education and opportunities.”

He added, “Today we are celebrating the vision of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. His ambitious project the Golden Quadrilateral was path breaking. It has transformed lives and businesses positively. It encouraged industries and created employment opportunities in smaller towns. This coffee table book “The Golden Quadrilateral” is a tribute to this modern highway network.”

The coffee table book, The Golden Quadrilateral, is a chronicle of Mr Bob Rupani’s journey and his experience of travelling across the modern highway, driving Maruti Suzuki vehicles. The colourful coffee table book captures the moments, moods, spirit and life on this massive 5,856 Kms long highway network. It displays the old and new India, the growing aspirations and the achievements of its people.
