Q1: What are BS6 norms?
⦁ The draft notification of Bharat Stage 6 emission standards for every major on-road vehicle category in the country was issued by the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on February 19, 2016.
⦁ These standards are applicable to two- and three-wheeled vehicles as well as to light- and heavy duty vehicles.
⦁ BS6 norms, which came into effect from 1st April 2020, have brought India at par with the European countries and the US.
Q2: What it means for us?
It means lesser emissions, cleaner cars. India decided to introduce BS6 for a lot of reasons, including the degradation of air quality in the cities. BS6 cars, in the long run, will help to substantially reduce NOx, Particular matter, and NMHC emissions which affect the health of the country’s citizens.
