Maruti Suzuki CSR initiatives get top rank: Rated ‘4 Good’ by The Economic Times

New Delhi: In recognition of its extensive and deeply impactful social interventions, Maruti Suzuki was rated ‘4 Good’ by the prestigious Economic Times 2 Good 4 Good CSR rating scheme. This is the highest rating accorded to any company under this rating model designed by KPMG.

Mr A K Tomer, Executive Director, Corporate Planning, Maruti Suzuki India Limited accepted the award on behalf of the Company from the esteemed jury at a glittering ceremony, yesterday evening.

The evaluation and scoring for these ratings are conducted basis a thorough investigation of a company’s CSR programmes by an esteemed independent jury and KPMG India, the knowledge partners of this rating methodology. Reach, impact, sustainability along with future road maps are all important considerations under the multi-level assessment undertaken. Before final conferral of ratings, the jury additionally studied the scorecard of each company under consideration for the ratings at an absolute and comparative level along with qualitative inputs from the different jury members.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr A K Tomer, Executive Director – Corporate Planning, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We are extremely pleased to have won this prestigious rating in recognition of our effort towards, sustainable and impactful CSR interventions. We at Maruti Suzuki firmly believe in assessing the work we do to ensure that our work is bringing a positive impact at the grass root level. Being assessed alongside peers who have done some outstanding work, gives us confidence to continue our pursuit.”

About Maruti Suzuki’s CSR programme:

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) undertakes relevant and effective social projects in the areas of Road Safety, Community Development and Skill Development.

Road Safety: Road Safety is one of the key initiatives under its CSR umbrella. In the area of Road Safety, the company is using latest technologies to improve safety on roads. The Company continues to support expansion of quality driving training infrastructure in the country, with increased focus on training of driving instructors.

Community Development: In Community Development, the Company aims to improve the quality of life in its 26 project villages by undertaking relevant and effective social projects including building sewer lines, household toilets, providing potable drinking water and upgrading government school infrastructure.

Skill Development: Under Skill Development the Company is expanding its efforts to enhance employability of underprivileged youth by improving the quality of skill training in over 110 Industrial Training Institutes. The Company’s approach is to consult potential employers to understand their requirements, and undertake relevant initiatives to make students industry ready. In FY 2017-18 the Company set up Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) in Mehsana, Gujarat as a model ITI. The institute is an outcome of a joint initiative between Government of India and Government of Japan to create a pool of 30,000 skilled manpower for the manufacturing industry in India.
