It consists of a high-tech Integrated Starter Generator and a dual battery setup that includes a Lithium-ion battery pack. Simply speaking, these batteries store the energy lost during deceleration and braking. This energy is then used to assist the engine during acceleration, thereby reducing fuel consumption, which means your visits to the fuel pump will be less.
The ISG is at the heart of all Maruti Suzuki Smart Hybrid cars in India. ISG replaces the conventional alternator. It plays multiple roles, that result in better fuel-efficiency and enhanced driving performance. Here is what it does exactly!
The ISG converts the kinetic energy produced from braking and deceleration into electrical energy, and then stores it in the dual battery setup.
The engine is automatically turned off when idling. The ISG also helps in a quick and silent restart of the engine. Result : Fuel preservation at traffic lights and in slow-moving traffic.
In this mode, the energy that is stored in the dual battery system is used by the ‘motor’ function of the ISG to supplement the engine’s power during acceleration. As a result, the load on the engine is reduced when the car is picking up speed.
