Manufacturing Excellence

Maruti Production System

Pillars of Manufacturing Excellence

Training and Methodologies

Manufacturing Excellence
Manufacturing Excellence is all about our capability to reduce cost of our existing models while enhancing their features and improving their technology.

One of the biggest strengths of "Manufacturing Excellence" has been our ability to produce affordable and attractive cars for discerning Indian customers with more features.

How do we do it - by encouraging employee participation
The story of Maruti's manufacturing excellence hinges around four important pillars Safety, Quality, Cost and Productivity.

While each of them support and complement each other, it is the safety of the work place which makes the difference.

This learning has helped us design plants that are high on safety features. Once safety of the work place has been taken care of, all the other critical aspects such as cost, productivity and quality fall in place.

The safety of the plant is closely supervised by employees themselves. To ensure that they remain vigilant about safety of their work station they list down all possible threats or hazards of their work stations and do the needful by eliminating them completely.

Lean Manufacturing
Lean Manufacturing ushered a new era in the world of manufacturing. As opposed to the mass manufacturing approach lean manufacturing is all about high quality and high flexibility.

As a philosophy Lean Manufacturing is widely accliamed for its focus on eliminating wastes of all kinds.

Our parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) is a keen follower of 'Lean Manufacturing' and we take pride in adopting the learnings from SMC by developing the Maruti Production System on principles of Suzuki Production System.

Kaizen (Continuous Improvement)
Kaizen (Continuous Improvement), has been the way of life at Maruti Suzuki. In face of gaps between capacity and demand, Maruti did not go for the obvious solution of increasing capacity but thoroughly examined the areas of productivity enhancement. All Japanese principles to eliminate waste or Muda were implemented.

Innumerable shop floor kaizens put together year on year, by every employee on the shop floor, have enabled the company achieve these fascinating numbers
