How to drive in fog? |
| |
In fog, always drive slow. Make sure you drive at a speed that will allow you to stop with in the distance of your visibility. Use dipped headlights or front fog lamps. Switch on the wind screen wipers & keep cleaning the wind screens and side glasses.
Don't make the mistake of hanging onto the lights of the vehicle in front and tailing it- it only gives a false sense of security. Allow more time for your journey and never be in a hurry. Do not increase your speed to get away from a vehicle which may be closely following you behind. |

How to drive in very hot weather? |
| |
Inspect the tyres for overheating and stop to check tread separation every 100 Kms. If the tyre is so hot that you are unable to touch it then it is time you stopped and allowed it to cool off. Remember under high temperatures, the tread may come off the retreated tyres and may lead to tyre burst as air pressure increases with temperature.
Do not try to remove air on your own, as the tyre pressure will vary according to varying temperatures. The pressure will dip when the tyre cools and will increase with heat. Check if there is sufficient engine oil and water in the radiator. They help to keep the engine cool. Watch for those road sections where tar bleeds in heat. Drive slowly in these areas, as they are very slippery. |

| |
Ensure the lamps are clean and headlamps correctly set so as to provide maximum illumination without dazzling other drivers. Drive at a controlled speed, so that you have the control to stop well within the distance. Remember to give a quick flash to warn the driver while overtaking. Once on the road, clean the windscreens and glasses as often as possible. In rainy conditions ensure that wipers are in working conditions. |

How to drive on hills? |
| |
Always check brakes before commencing your journey and drive in the correct gear while climbing up or coming down a section. While driving on hills, never switch off engine or put the gear in neutral with a view to save fuel or cool the engine. It is a very dangerous thing to do. Always give way to a heavy/loaded vehicle and upcoming traffic.
Follow all traffic signs and use horn at all blind corners. Never attempt to overtake near the bends or at the crest of a hill. |
