Up the Shervarayan Hills - Yercaud
     
  The cool clime and the calm environs of a hill station would work wonders besides rejuvenating the nerves. A couple of days or maybe a long weekend would be enough to visit the hills of Yercaud. This hill station near Salem is situated in the Servarayan range in the Eastern Ghats at a height of 1,500 m.  
         
     
         
  Places to see
 
     
  Servarayan temple situated at a height of 5326 feet, is the highest point in Yercaud. The hill s are referred to as the Servarayan hills.
  Yercaud is well known for its coffee plantations. The vast acres of plantations and the greenery around is a refreshing sight - quite a contrast to city life.
  Yercuad is well known for its range orchards. There is an orchidarium run by the Botanical Survey of India.
  The placid lake in the centre of the town provides a picturesque appearance to the whole area. Boating is allowed and a trip around the lake is quite enjoyable.
  Pyramid point is a spot that was once a Stone Age fortress shrine proved by the cairns of stones. This point provides an impressive view of Salem.
  The forests close by have some wild animals like the bison which can be spotted occasionally.
  Killiyur Falls is a scenic spot with the water falling into the valley below.
  Bear's cave is situated on the way to Servarayan temple is an important tourist spot for the religiously inclined as it is considered one of the six abodes of Lord Subramanya.

  This place can be visited any time of the year since the temperature never exceeds 30 degrees. It doesn’t get unbearably cold in winter.
  Yercaud can be reached through the town of Salem. The road up hills has some hairpin bends to encounter.
