Varkala - The Land of cliffs and coasts

Amidst the picturesque settings of ‘Gods’ own country,’ with the Arabian Sea spreading its arms towards the north of Tiruvananthapuram, lies Varkala- a beach resort. The golden hues on the horizon at sunset and sunrise are a treat to watch from the beach. Not as crowded as the other beaches, the serene surroundings and the pristine beach is what makes Varkala a special tourist destination.

Though well known as a beach resort, Varkala is primarily a temple town with the famous Vishnu shrine dedicated to Lord Janardhana. This temple is often referred to as Dakshin Kashi.

A very distinctive feature of Varkala is the cliffs found adjacent to the Arabian Sea. Kerala coast is generally flat and the cliffs found here is a unique feature.

Varkala is a good place to enjoy a quiet holiday, relaxing on the sandy expanse.
