Historical Encounter - Udaipur
         
  Indulge in a bit of history in Udaipur - The kingdom of Mewar. With legends of bravery associated with it, Udaipur is the birth place of Maharana Pratap whose valiant attacks against the Mughals is well known. Interestingly Udaipur is the only place which the Mughals never occupied.

Udaipur is a fascinating blend of nature on one side and architectural splendour on the other. Surrounded by the majestic Aravali Mountains and situated on the banks of the picturesque Pichola Lake, Udaipur is a nature lover's paradise as much as it is seeped in history. .
 
   
  A look around the palace with its many attractions will consume most of your time since the attractions are many and varied. The grandiose palaces which tower over the lakes, the museums with its varied artifacts, and the architectural marvels are attractions that Udaipur has in plenty. The other attractions are its temples. Boat rides, horse rides trekking, shopping are some of the other engagements that the city offers for its tourists.

Seeped in history, a visit to Udaipur is like recollecting a page from it.

  City Palace -
    Overlooking the Lake Pichhola stands the splendid City Palace - a marvel ingranite and marble. Its main entrance is through the triple-arched gate or the 'tripolia'.

The Suraj Khoda in the palace is the place where the people assembled and Kings addressedthem in  times of need.

The Mor-chowk or Peacock courtyard is ornately decorated with vivid mosaics in glass on its walls.

The Pratap Museum houses the antique paintings of Mewar.

Manak Mahal or the Ruby Palace has a lovely collection of glass and mirror work.

The Surya Chopar or the sun square depicts a huge ornamental sun symbolising the sun dynasty to
which the Mewar dynasty belongs.

Saheliyon Ki Bari with its beautiful gardens is famous for its lush green lawns, marble art and fountains. Located on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake, it was built by Maharana Sangram Singh for the royal ladies to gather and spend time.

     
  Jagdish Temple -
    The Jagannath Rai temple is a monument built by Maharana Jagat Singh. The temple is an icon of Indo Aryan architecture.
     
  Classic Car Museum -
     Situated close to the City palace is the Garden Hotel with a splendid attraction for automobile enthusiasts is the car museum within the grounds of the Garden Hotel. The vintage cars were once owned and used by the Maharajas
     
  Shilpagram -
    Situated 3 kms west of Udaipur near the Havala village is the Centre's Shilpgram or Craftsmen's Village. It is spread over 70 Acres is a Rural Arts and Crafts Complex conceived as a living ethnographic museum to depict the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people.

      It is well connected to Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Chittaurgarh, Jodhpur and Ahmedabad.
