The valley of peace - Toranmal
     
  Toranmal hill station is one of those hideaways, nestled in the Satpuda hills, in Maharashtra. Known for its pristine beauty, Toranmal a little distance from Pune is an ideal getaway for a weekend to just while away time in natural environs.

This hill station is situated at an altitude of 1461m in Satpura hills. These hills are situated in Akrani Taluka of Nandarpur district in Maharashtra.

Toranmal is a derivation from the Marathi words toran or welcome arch and mal or mala or garland Perhaps the reason for this name is the formation of the natural arches of trees which blossomed prolifically, appearing like garlands strung together, when viewed from the heights of Satapura ranges. The tree was probably worshipped as Torana Devi who became the presiding deity of this little hill station.
 
         
   
         
  This place is attracted by devotees to the Gorakhnath Temple of Lord Shiva, especially during the festival of Maha Shivarathri. Perhaps the only time when Toranmal has a lot a lot of visitors and can sometimes get crowded.

The surrounding lakes and waterfalls add charm to this already attractive destination. Yashvant Lake and Lotus lakes are the major draws, known for their scenic beauty.

  Gorakhnath Temple
Gorakhnath temple, the most frequented temple of this region is a famous temple of Lord Shiva who is believed to fulfill the wishes of his devotees. On the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, ardent devotees walk bare foot to reach this temple. The Nagarjun temple is yet another temple which devotees are attached to.
  Yashwant Lake
Yashwant Lake is a naturally formed lake where one can spend time endlessly just admiring the scenic beauty that this charming lake provides. There is another lake in this region commonly called Kamal Talao which is full of lotus flowers.
  Machhindranath Cave
There are numerous natural caves among which the Machhindranath Gumpha or Cave attracts tourists.
  Khadki point
Khadki point is the spot which provides a panoramic view of the valley. It’s a photographer's delight.

For avid trekkers Toranmal is a paradise. There are a number of trekking routes to indulge in.

Toranmal is an all year destination, not only due to its pristine beauty and the favourable weather conditions but also due to a sense of peace which travelers often seem to derive during their visits here.
