 | Sariska - A Wildlife Encounter |  |  | | | | | | | Wild animals, exotic birds, migratory birds, crocodiles, thickets of dhok trees, and above all the elusive tiger- Sariska is home to them all. The impressive array of animals include sambhar, chital, nilgai, four-horned antelope, wild boar, rhesus macaque, langur, leopard, hyena and jungle cats. The avian species include quail, horned owl, sandgrouse, grey patridge; golden- backed woodpeckers and crested serpent eagles, among other species. The lush green valley is primarily a deciduous forest filled with dhok, acacia and ber trees. The park is spread over an expanse of over 866 sq. km. This area was once a hunting reserve of the royal family of Alwar in Rajasthan. Bird watching is also a fascinating experience here. | | |  | Kankwari Fort Located within the park on the top of a hillock, is a Fort exhibiting Mughal architecture. This fort was once the place where Emperor Aurangazeb imprisoned his brother, Dara Shikoh due to a feud between them. | | |  | Shiva Temple Within the precincts of the sanctuary, is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Neelkanth temple is an ancient one which is now in ruins. It is open to visitors. The town of Alwar is close by. The lake abounds in crocodiles. | | |  | The Royal Palace Sarisika was once the reserve for the rulers of Alwar. The palace was built by the Maharaja of Alwar.
