Located in Sikkim at
a height of 6800ft, in the eastern Himalayas, Pelling is a tourist
destination that attracts visitors mainly for its scenic beauty
and the picturesque views of the Kanchenjunga. The village of Pelling
is named after an old monastery of the region called Pemaling Choeling.
Pelling is a paradise for nature enthusiasts as well, as bird watching
here is a favourite pastime. |

Yuksom
Yuksom was the first capital of Sikkim. It is about 35
kms from Pelling. The place is steeped in Sikkim
legends. |

Rabdentse Palace
Rabdentse was once the second capital of Sikkim. It is about
3 to 4 kilometer from Pelling. The palace is in ruins now. |

Pemayangste Monastery
The premier monastery of the state, this monastery is considered
very special as it is meant for `ta-sang¿ lamas (pure monks).
The model was built single handedly by Dugzin Rimpoche. |

Sangacholing Monastery
The second oldest monastery Sangacholing Monastery is close
to Pemayangtse and located on a ridge above Pelling. |

Khecheopalri Lake
Khecheopalri Lake is considered as one of the sacred lakes
of Sikkim by the Hindus and Buddhists. The lake is 34km
northwest of Pelling. This lake is known as the "Wishing
Lake". A holy dip in the lake is believed to fulfill ones
wish/wishes. The lake is also believed to be the footprint
of Goddess Tara. |
