Matheran is one of the most beautiful and well maintained hill stations in Maharashtra. Present amidst jambol forests, surrounded by mist covered valleys with breathtaking waterfalls and the clouds floating above - this hill station has a pristine pastoral charm which keeps attracting visitors often.
Matheran is situated in Sahyadri Mountains in the Matheran range, at a height of 2516 feet. It is an easily accessible and oft frequented hill station, being close to Mumbai and Pune.
The railways with the toy train that moves in and out of Matheran at least 4 times a day takes you through a journey of the spectacular hills sides and the breathtaking surrounding plateau. |

Matheran is pleasant throughout the year but the best time to visit would be from October to May.

Charlotte Lake,
The lake is main source of water for Matheran. There is a dam at one end and a temple, 'Pisarnath Mandir' at the other of the lake. |
