Kumarakom - Calming Kumarakom
     
  If you are not looking for a holiday with adventure or excitement, than Kumarakom is just the place for you. Calm, tranquil, peaceful are words that would aptly describe a holiday at Kumarakom.

Kumarakom is a tourist village in Kottayam district located at the distance of 15 km from Kottayam town in Kerala. It is situated on the banks of the Vembanad lake.

Vembanad Lake is a large lake covering an area of 200 sq km, and bordered by Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam districts. Kumarakom is basically a backwater destination. Surrounded by swaying coconut palms, the picturesque Vembanad Lake, the shrill call of the exotic birds, filling your ears, makes this island destination, truly a paradise.
 
         
   
         
  For a tour around the village, house boats are available. The leisurely ride allows you a glimpse of the Kumarakom countryside. You can watch the Kerala houses with the traditional Kerala architecture. At some spots, you can watch the people at work in the fields. You could stop at the sylvan bird sanctuary nearby, or simply relax in the house boat.

For those looking for rest and rejuvenation and a bit of peace, Kumarakom would be an ideal destination.

The Kumarakom bird sanctuary is home to an exotic array of birds. Winters attract lot of migratory birds.
