A little digression from the popular hill station of Mussoorie and further into the valley, is a sylvan retreat that offers an unending vista of deodar and pine clad slopes, snow-capped peaks and rope like rivers cascading down green valleys.
This quaint hideaway Dhanaulti, is situated on the Mussoorie-Tehri road to Chamba in Uttar Pradesh.
A major attraction is the pony/ horse ride. Exploring the place on horse back offers a wonderful experience. Biking is also a good way to explore the hillside. For those who wouldn’t mind roughing it, camping in the wilderness is a good option. There are a number of orchards in this place. The apple orchards spread across an entire mountain range is worth a visit.
Aloo Khet or the potato farm is a popular point worth visiting specially to see the sunrise. |

There is a natural mineral spring in Dhanaulti which gushes out from a deep crevice in the mountains. The spring is believed to have curative powers, according to the locals.
The temple of Surkhanda Devi, a little distant away from Dhanaulti is located at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level. This location offers a breathtaking view of the Himalayan peaks. The temple can also be reached by trekking for those who enjoy it.
ECO-Park is an added attraction of Dhanaulti. Developed recently ECO Park is a small patch of forest area open to the public.
Summer is the best time to visit the place. Winter is also a good time for those who like snow and can withstand the chillness. Monsoons are best avoided due to landslides which occur because of heavy rainfall. |
