New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki
on Tuesday unveiled the all-new K12M engine for its soon-to-be-launched
hatchback Ritz. The BS-IV compliant 1197 cc aluminium engine, second in
the K-series, will be manufactured at the company's new state-of the-art
engine manufacturing facility at its Gurgaon plant, which was
inaugurated last year with the launch of A-star's K10B engine.
Unveiling the new engine, Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and CEO Shinzo
Nakanishi said, "K12M engine is another example of our commitment to
take engine technology in India to the next level. This is in line with
parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation's focus on maximising the
environmental benefits of fully proven technologies. K-series engines
are not just fuel efficient but also low on CO2 emissions."
The first car to be fitted with this brand new K12M engine will be the
forthcoming premium compact car Ritz, which will be exported to global
markets as Splash. Ritz is likely to be launched next month. The
four-cylinder engine will give 85 PS of power.
"The K12M engine has been specifically designed for Indian applications.
Our engineers worked as part of the Suzuki's engine design team for
design, calibration and testing of the engine in Japan and India. The
engine promises to be best-in-class fuel efficient, high performance,
low emission, lightweight, with lower NVH (noise, vibration and
harshness)," he said.
The engine promises lowers running costs as it improved first changeover
time of engine oil from 1,000 km to 10,000 km, increased spark plug life
and reduced valve clearance adjustment time, Mr. Nakanishi added. |
