|Bangalore, April 14, 2012: The five day Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare rally with over 100 participants traversing through 2000 km concluded today at Bangalore. 'The Dare' as the motorsports enthusiasts often call it, was flagged off from Mysore on 9th April and concluded in Bangalore today where a Prize Distribution Ceremony was held. Officials at Maruti Suzuki promised more excitement in the form of more sporting events in the current financial year. |
As an automobile leader, Maruti Suzuki has been promoting motor sports since its inception in the 1980s. To popularize action sport, the Maruti Suzuki motorsport calendar is packed with exciting motoring events. Be it for a motorsport enthusiast, an amateur or a professional and irrespective of gender, there are events that offer the thrill and joy of motorsport for everyone. What's more, Maruti Suzuki is the only automaker the encourages participation from all manufacturers. These events provide rallying thrills as well as promote safe driving habits.

The annual calendar of events includes Autocross, Treasure Hunt and professional rallies including Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya, Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm and Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare.
In Bangalore itself, Maruti Suzuki has been organising professional rally in the form of Maruti Suzki Dakshin Dare, a hill climb race called Maruti Suzuki King of Hills, a TSD rally for corporate houses called Maruti Suzuki Drive2Win Corporate Challenge and plans to introduce Go-Karting and possible Supra SAE from this year onwards.
Maruti Suzuki's association with Motorsports began in 1980s in small way. In 1998 it introduced Maruti Suzuki Raid-De-Himalaya, which is the highest motorsports rally in the world and attracts participants from various countries. Held in October every year, just before the onset of snowfalls, the rally traverses over 2000 km including highest motorable road in world at 18000 ft and temperatures dipping to below 20 degrees.
Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm was introduced in 2002 and is often referred to 'Mini Dakar' in this part of globe. The rally traverses a gruelling 3500 through Thar, Pokhran, Rann of Kutch, and Aravalis among others. Held in February every year just before the onset of Summer this event offers the challenges of like over 300 kms of Super Stages, temperatures from extreme hot during noon to below to almost zero during nights.
Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare
Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare was organized in partnership with Motorsports Inc for the 4th year in row.
This year the 'Dare' cross countried the Western Ghats, comes down to Deccan Plateau, goes into Nilgiri's Biosphere, back into Plains, into the foot hills of Nilgiris before returning back to Deccan Plateau. It traverse a grueling 2000 kms over 5 days of mud, gravel, forests, hills, plantations and tarmac between Mysore, Waynad, Ooty, Munnar, Coimbatore, Sapthamangal hills, and Bangalore.
Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare, spread over 24 special stages, was flagged off on April 9 and had many firsts including the first ever Night Rally around Nilgiris, non-auto corporate teams and moto quads. Over 100 participants and motorsports enthusiasts across country will see edge of the seat action in three broad categories - Ultimate Cars, Ultimate Bikes and Endurance Cars.
